After radioactive material was reported stolen in Mexico earlier today, officials have stated that the highly radioactive material has been recovered, hit the jump for more.
Officials have stated that stolen, highly radio active material was found open in a container, alongside the stolen truck, but poses no risk to its surrounding population, because of its remote area.
“The highly radioactive material was found in an empty lot about a half a mile from Hueypoxtla, an agricultural town of about 4,000 people, but it poses no threat or a need for an evacuation, said Juan Eibenschutz, director general of the National Commission of Nuclear Safety and Safeguards”, reports FoxNews
Thieves stole the material, known as Cobalt, after overtaking a truck with the “delicate cargo”. The hazardous material could be used to make a dirty or household bomb. Officials have retrieved the truck and remaining cargo but are unsure if the thieves left with any of the dangerous substance.
The Cobalt substance can be extremely harmful if released into the air, and is considered to be a prime “candidate” in dirty bombs.
