A new law enacted in California, allowing new sentence hearings for cases involving juveniles sentenced to life who have served 15 years or more, is definitely benefiting one woman as she prepares to get released on parole after the re=opening of her case.
Sara Kruzan, 35, was previously convicted of first-degree murder for the murder of her pimp, George Howard in a Riverside, Calif., hotel room. Kruzan was convicted when she was 17 years old in 1994, and has said that Howard has “sexually assaulted her when she was 11 and forced her into prostitution when she was 13”.
The new law is allowing for the parole-hearings of 1,000 cases in California. Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown stated that he will allow parole of a woman sentenced at age 16 to life in prison for killing a man who forced her into prostitution, his office reported.
