Officials are currently investigating what drove off duty Carbon County Deputy Sheriff David Miras to the point where he captured another off duty cop and held him captive before shooting himself.

Mental Illness is a factor being investigated within the motive for the chaotic events. The situation is even more confusing because the officer that Miras had held captive is also a known friend of his.

Reports read that Friday night 33 year old David Midas drove to the police station, picked up ammunition and an unmarked police car from the Landford station where he was a part time officer. He then drove to the house of the 2nd officer, and took him hostage.

“Midas then drove Ondrus to nearby Jim Thorpe, where a struggle began in the tourist town of Jim Thorpe, about 70 miles north of Philadelphia. Midas shot himself in the head, police say,” reports HP
