Adrian Peterson is no stranger to tragedy and each time he’s managed to persevere through it all. In a heinous act his two-year old son was abused and passed away on Friday but Peterson has suited up to play Sunday much to the surprise of many. He explained his decision. Read more after the jump.
He said, in a text to Fox Sports, that he believes “God wants good to come from” him persevering through tragedy to play.
“My brother passed the night before the combine and I decided to go through with it. The same reason why I will play this week. You may ask why? God wants good to come from it,” Peterson said. “We mourn and grieve but heaven had the baddest welcoming party for my son. That knowledge gives me peace. I’m still hurt and feel the pain of life, but I’m able to function because of the peace and joy of knowing my loved ones are in a much better place.”
Oftentimes athletes use work as a cathartic way to move through tragedy and will often dedicate their performance to those that they lost. It’s very possible Peterson is doing just that on Sunday.
