The Akron Beacon-Journal reports backup center Tyler Zeller had an emergency appendectomy on Friday. According to the newspaper, the Cleveland Cavaliers have not given a timeline for his return to the active roster. Read more after the jump.
Zeller will surely miss the start of the 2013-14 regular which means one of the big men who received a camp invite will make the squad. DeSagana Diop, Kenny Kadjiand Henry Sims are on the roster bubble and Sims might have the advantage to make the team as he is a legit center. Kadji has impressed, but he is more of a power forward, while Diop isn’t close to being in game shape.
The Cavs are already without Andrew Bynum as he strengthens his knees and there is no time-frame when he might be able to play. All these injuries means Anderson Varejao will start at center and probably have to play a lot of minutes until Bynum and Zeller are healthy.
