After losing to Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout in his first two-bout losing streak, Cotto entered the fight with something to prove. With the legendary Freddie Roach as his trainer, he came in well prepared and ready to fight.
Cotto landed several left hooks to the body of Rodriguez but it was a crunching left hook to the head that dropped Rodriguez and caused referee Frank Santore to stop the fight at 2:42 of the third. Cotto improved to 38-4 with his 31st knockout.
With this win and his mass improvement there’s already talk about who his next fight will be against. There’s talk of Canelo Alvarez, Sergio Martinez or maybe even a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. We’ll just have to wait and see.
