The league set out to save NBA owners from themselves last offseason, putting in place a more restrictive collective-bargaining agreement with a lower salary cap that benefited teams. It’s still not particularly tough to put together a list of overpaid players, though.
Nearly all of the contracts are legacy deals that were signed before the new CBA, but teams still must deal with those contracts under the new reality they helped create. Look at these deals, including those of some superstar players reaching the tail end of their careers, and you’ll see why owners needed built-in protection.
