The Daily News has learned that Ryan, Idzik and much of the team’s key decision makers are on board with moving on from Mark Sanchez.

Although speculation centered on Ryan’s desire to cling to Sanchez, sources told the News that Ryan believes that Smith is the better option if healthy.

Sanchez’s shoulder injury makes it a no-brainer for Ryan, who is likely to start Smith for the season opener against the Buccaneers on Sunday.

The Jets were so impressed with Smith in the first couple weeks of training camp that Ryan was set to name him the Week 1 starter before the rookie suffered an ankle injury in the preseason opener.

Despite Sanchez’s sharp practices, the brain trust simply doesn’t fully trust the fifth-year veteran and have grown tired of his repeated red-zone mistakes, according to sources.

Although Sanchez showed flashes of excellent play in the first two preseason games, the key decision makers don’t believe the team can consistently win with him.
