Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be the first in the Supreme Court Justice to officiate a same sex wedding taking place in Washington D.C. on Saturday, Hit the jump for the full story!
Judge Ginsburg, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court appointed by Bill Clinton, will be conducting the ceremony between Kennedy Center President Micheal M. Kaiser and economist John Roberts. The wedding will take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The couple’s matrimony will serve as a major staple within same sex unions as it combines one of the “nations highest court and one of capital’s high society”.
“I think it will be one more statement that people who love each other and want to live together should be able to enjoy the blessings and the strife in the marriage relationship,” Ginsburg stated.
She added: “It won’t be long before there will be another” performed by a justice. Indeed, she has another planned for September.
Ginsburg committed to officiating the wedding short after two months of the Supreme Court’s ruling “on the Defense Of Marriage Act, the law barring the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages legalized by the states. The Court ruled DOMA was unconstitutional by a 5-4 vote” Huffpost
The couple were elated to have the Judge officiate the union, Micheal Kaiser and Judge Ginsburg are very close friends.
“I can’t imagine someone I’d rather be married by” than Ginsburg, Kaiser stated in an interview.
