Bob Filner was initiated into the scandalous mayor clan after numerous accusations of sexual harassments from women working with him, attending political parties and more surfaced! I guess Filner finally caved into pressure and officially resigned as mayor today, hit the jump for more detail!
Bob Filner previously known as San Diego’s Mayor has officially resigned! After receiving much back lash the past 6 weeks, for his sexual harassment accusations, Filner decided to call it quits. With 18 women coming forward accusing the former mayor of: ” groping, forcible kisses, and unwanted touch” he decided to check himself into a two week rehab soon after the accusations came to light in order to search for a “solution” and reasoning for his “behavior”.
Filner previously denied any talks of resignation and even went on to stating that while he was being “rehabilitated” he was also taking care of his duties as a mayor.
“The San Diego City Council on Friday voted 7-0 to accept Filner’s resignation as part of a deal his lawyers struck with the city attorney over a sexual harassment suit against him. As part of the deal, Filner will stay in office until Aug. 30”.
During the “special meeting” supporters of Filner showed out as well as those in support for the resignation of the mayor were present. One supporter stated:
“We’re not fooled. We know this is a circus to get a good man out of office”
One opposed of the mayor added:
‘”I came down here today just to let you know how determined our gatherers and voters are to get this predator permanently out of this building”‘
Their has been a debate on whether to cover the legal costs of Filner due to the sexual harassment accusation yet it is said that they will pay at least some of the fees, while on accuser is “suing the city itself”.
The city council president Todd Gloria is the new appointed mayor and has stated this about former mayor Filner:
“What I know is each day that passes this man is mayor more bad things are happening to our city, less services getting done, fewer businesses coming to San Diego, and our national reputation continues to be drug through the mud,” stated Gloria to CBS News’ Tracy.
