Microsoft has announced today that CEO Steve Ballmer has decided to retire within the next year upon finding someone to fill in his position. In the mean time Ballmer will continue to perform his duties as CEO and lead Microsoft through its transformation of devices and services.
The Board of Directors has appointed a special committee to help with the hiring process. They are working with Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. (a leading executive recruiting firm) to consider all candidates for the position. Microsofts stock has not really grown since Ballmer took over the CEO position from Bill Gates. He has faced a great amount of criticism lately over the failure of the Windows Phones and Surface RT. Ballmer has been a charismatic and influential asset to the digital world and we wish his nothing but the best for the him and the remainder of his career.
