The Miami Dolphins were dealt a devastating blow when tight end Dustin Keller suffered a brutal knee injury during their preseason game against the Houston Texans. Read more after the jump.
Keller was a great addition for the Dolphins and was expected to be one of quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s top targets. On Saturday night during the Dolphins game against the Texans, Keller was hit by Texans rookie safety D.J. Swearinger. According to Swearinger he went low to avoid a fine for a helmet to helmet hit.
“I was making a hit playing football,” Swearinger said, via Andrew Abramson of thePalm Beach Post. “In this league you’ve got to go low. If you go high you’re going to get a fine. . . .
“The rules say you can’t hit high so I went low and I’m sorry that happened. I would think you’d rather have more concussions than leg injuries. Leg injury, you can’t come back from that. A concussion, you be back in a couple in a couple of weeks.”
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter Keller tore his ACL, MCL, PCL and dislocated his knee. Devastating injuries for the young tight end and tough loss for the Dolphins.
