Pakistani officials stated that at least eight people have died from consuming a homemade toxic liquor. 14 people were hospitalized after they drank the home made liquor, leaving eight dead. The others are currently being treated.
Officials have arrested two men who are suspected of selling the toxic liquor illegally, around the “Christian-dominated” slum. The suspects are also christian and officials say that they are searching for more who distill the liquor illegally.
“Liquor poisoning is common in Pakistan, where the Muslim majority is forbidden to consume or sell alcohol. Non-Muslims can drink but many poor buy the cheapest homemade liquor, which is often adulterated”.
