A New York native with an infatuation of the city’s transit system has been arrested over 20 times for capturing trains and buses! Hit the jump to see how exactly how this man did it!
Ever wish you were the conductor, while riding the bus? .. No? Well one by the name of Darius Mcollum took his dreams of becoming a conductor to the next level. The man who knows every subway stop, every line, every train stated that:
“I’ve always loved trains, ever since I can remember. I had the whole subway map memorized by the time I was 8. People would call me to ask how to get somewhere,” said the 49-year-old Mcollum, who has spent nearly a third of his life behind bars.
His obsession with the transit system has caused him to rack up 29 arrests for crimes including “piloting a subway train, stealing a bus and donning uniforms to pose as a conductor and even track worker”.
Mcollum has remained Rikers Island since 2010 after being caught on a highway near Kennedy International airport, during his last escapade of impersonating the driver of a Trails way bus.
Although the scenario seems all too common for Mcollum, his attorney Sally Butler claims that his actions are in result of an autism spectrum disorder. Mcollum pleaded guilty to commuting the act and attorneys are said to have come up with a solution. “Instead of being sentenced 15 years as a habitual offender, he will get 2 ½ to 5 years and voluntarily undergo cognitive behavioral therapy”.
Mcollum seems to become accustom to ins nd outs of the jail life although he stated that he does not like it in there. He also stated:
“It’s my passion,” he said of the transit system. “The more was I down there, the more I wanted to do. I enjoy everything about the subway system.”
