Get ready for Facebook to get A LOT more annoying. Facebook is set to put auto-play ads into users’ news feeds, allowing marketers to “buy their way directly” into profiles. The ads will be 15-seconds long and will be sold for as much as $2.5 million per day.
Marketers will be able to target users on the basis of age and gender. To capitalize on the 88 to 100 million people who actively use Facebook during prime-time TV hours, Facebook is seeking ad revenue that would traditionally go to TV networks. Facebook is anticipating no decline in satisfaction for users of the site, but who knows how popular these ads – and Facebook – when rolled out to everyone.
