After pulling a woman over for going 82mph in a 62mph zone, one officer proved that he has a heart. During the stop, Trooper Christopher Cummings noticed that not-only did the woman have and expired registration sticker, but also a suspended license. When he approached her car during the stop and asked why she was in such a hurry, the woman, 28-year-old Carley Williams, hit the officer with her sob story.

She told the officer that she was on her was to the hospital where her father was dying of stage IV cancer. In fact, Cummings stated [that] “She told me her father had stage four cancer, that he was breathing only six breaths a minute, and that she was trying to make it to the hospital before he passed.”

The officer, showing sympathy, allowed her to go with out issuing a ticket as long as she slowed down. But it wasn’t that easy for Williams. Not too long after the stop, the officer called the alleged hospital where her father was “staying.” At that time, he discovered that no one by that name was staying there. After a brief search, the officer came to find out that Williams’ father died in 2008.

“I was upset,” said Cummings, “For someone to lie about their deceased father just to get out of a speeding ticket was pretty upsetting to me as a person.”

Heading to Williams’ house, Officer Cummings handed her a copy of her father’s obituary and asked her to explain it. She responded, saying that it wasn’t her father pictured, but her uncle. But, after arresting her for driving with a suspended license, she later confessed.
