The son of a victim in a Sikh Temple attack that occurred last year in Milwaukee has made amends with an Ex-White Supremacist. Read more after jump
After losing your father to a hateful attack against the temple in which he practiced his faith, you would think that one would lose faith in others? That isn’t the case for Pardeep Kaleeka, who’s father’s life was taken at the hands of the white-supremist who entered the temple and opened gun fire. After the attack a former skin head member invited him to dinner, although skeptical, Kaleeka accepted. Kaleeka was able to accept the friendship of Michaelis once he had seen the good that he has done since he quit his supremacist ways in the 90’s. The two have since embarked on their journey to spread peace around their area.
42 year old Arno Michaelis, former white supremacist band member, racist tattoo baring, and overall trouble maker decided to trade in his hateful ways for those of peace. He has written a book called ” My Life After Hate”, unveiling his life, what led to joining the white supremacist movement as well as what made him leave it all behind, the birth of his daughter. Kaleeka saw this as a perfect opportunity to avenge the death of his father with peace and to prove to others that one can turn love into hate. Pushing any animosity aside he began to collaborate with Michaelis to create Serve2Unite:
“a community group that works to counter violence with peace”.
The two men visit schools, describing the events that took place at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin last year. During the process Michealis goes as far as explaining his background history to white- supremacy, showing the influences of the gunmen. This seems like a very insightful and productive way to make change and promote peace throughout the community above everything that happened. What do you think?
