It looks like the driver of the deadly train crash that killed 79 is at fault. He was driving twice the speed limit when the train derailed, and he also received 3 warnings to slow down before crashing??
Announcing on Friday, investigators of the crash stated the driver ignored 3 warning signals to slow down two minutes before the derailment. According to a court statement, the train driver, Francisco Jose Garzon Amo, was on the phone with a colleague during the initial automatic warning in his cabin to slow down. That statement explained that the warning was an audible sound, but there were no other details provided.
Police who did forensic tests on the train’s black box data records found that the last warning came about 250 yards before the deadly curve. At the time of the last warning, the train was already going 71 mph over the 50 mph speed limit… Four seconds later Garzon applied the emergency brakes.
Garzon admitted in court he was traveling to fast, but he could not give a reason as to why he didn’t slow down in advance. The investigation is expected to last a few weeks before presenting its conclusions.
