Two well known computer software hackers, Charles Miller and Chris Valasek plan to publicly release a how to guide manipulate a Toyota Prius and Ford Escape this week. Hit the jump for the full story ..
This 100 page white paper is followed by several months of research they conducted during a grant from the U.S. government. During this time these hackers figured out how to force a Prius to brake at 80 mph as well as veer quickly and dramatically or accelerate all without the driver’s permission. They also managed to disable a Ford Escape’s brakes while the vehicle is traveling at very low speeds no matter how hard the driver attempts to stop. Although in order to perform any of these actions the hacker would need to be physically inside the vehicle in order to tamper with it’s computer it is still very dangerous. They plan on releasing their findings at the Def Con hacking convention in Las Vegas.
