IFWT_Hexapus

While vacationing in Greece with his family, a Washington D.C. man crossed paths with what he thought was an octopus. While snorkeling, Labros Hydras — a mechanical engineer — pulled the animal out of the water and killed it by smashing its head on a rock. Although octopuses are a delicacy when cooked, it wasn’t until later that the man was made aware that it wasn’t one.

The octopus was actually a hexapus. Instead of a natural eight limbs, it had only six. In fact, the hexapus is extremely rare and the one that Hydras ate was the second one ever found!

After he killed it, he took it to a local tavern to be cooked, however the chef refused, so Hydras had to fry it himself. Of course, that’s after he and the family posed for pictures with it. Check them out in the Gallery above!

As for Hydras, he went on to say:

It tasted just like a normal octopus but now I feel really bad. When we caught it, there was nothing to suggest it was any different or had been damaged. I thought it had just been born with six tentacles. We go to Greece every year and when we catch an octopus we do the same thing so we just did not think about it.
