As of lately Google has been upping it’s game in the translate department. Just as of this week they announced that Google Translation now supports handwritten translation and now Google’s vice president, Hugo Barra has revealed that the company is in the early stages of developing a real time translation tool. This mobile translator will one day make having a language barrier the least of our worries. Hit the jump for more details ..
Although the technology is a few years away Barra says that his team has created tons of prototypes and that every other week or so they are making progress. The system itself is a near perfect match for certain language pairs and has a close to 100% accuracy rate in a room with no added noise. Poor microphones and noisy areas are still some of the things they are working on to improve this technology. Barra hopes that once the translator is complete that it will integrate in the Google’s Google Now service on mobile devices.
