Chris Robinson of Los Angeles had it all figured out. During the Beanie Baby craze of the early ’90s, he decided to dive in and buy, buy, buy — with hopes of one day hitting it big in sales. Let’s fast forward to today, 2013… this might be the first time you’ve even heard of the plush toys since. Hit the jump to see how far The Robinsons went into the Beanie Baby Business.

The plan was to buy the most sought after editions of the toys and sell them for a nice amount. Robinson wanted to use the profits to put his children through college. He spent $100,000 to do so.

In the Beanie Baby world, they were resellers. They would take their children to school late in order to purchase the toys and even recruited friends to tag along to monopolize purchases “trying to sidestep the ‘one-per-family rule.'”

Crazy. After all was said and done, they kids haven’t made it to college because they are still stuck with around 20,000 of the toys. Ironic, because that initial $100,000 could have put them through school.
