The University of Connecticut is currently considering putting a ban on student-faculty sexual relationships, just in time for the fall semester. Red more after jump

After a music professor was “placed on leave” for facing sexual misconduct allegations amongst students within the university and children several years ago at a summer camp, the university has decided to take measures into their own hands. A spokeswoman for the university has said that the prior case with music professor Robert Miller, had no influence in implementing the ban, because there was already talk about the policy beforehand. The University is taking the necessary measures in order to avoid this type of situation from occurring again. There have been new policies that have been put in place such as one that allows for more faculty members to be required to report sexual assaults, ( this was enacted soon after the Jerry Sandusky scandal). As well as the current proposal for the student-faculty sex ban:

“The university settled on a policy that would prohibit certain romantic relationships “between a faculty/staff member and any undergraduate; between faculty/staff and any graduate student over whom they have authority (such as if they’re a graduate student’s adviser, instructor, etc.); and between supervisors and their employees.”

Although the ban has not been enacted yet, it is set to be reviewed amongst the university’s board of trustees in August or September. This ban has received a mixed review, one woman whom was previously employeed at the university, claims that she has been pushing for a ban against graduate student and faculty relations for 25 years. Yet she also says that she however does believe that undergraduate students and faculty should still be able to engage in sexual relations. She seems pretty indecisive to me.

Lets see what the upcoming semester holds for student/faculty relations for the UCONN Huskies.
