Disney’s imagineers, who are sort of a cross between engineers, mad scientists and imaginative ten year olds, always come up with wild inventions from animatronic dinosaurs to ghosts that come to life in the Haunted Mansion. Normally, to create a 3D computer model of a physical location, laser scanning and heavy duty computer analysis is required. Now, thanks to a development by Disney’s imagineers, a handful of regular old 2D photographs can be stitched together with a reduced amount of computer processing to render a 3D model of a scene that can be used in video games or animation.
