A woman from New York is accused of posing as a victim from the Boston Marathon bombing to collect funds that were intended for the victims. Hit the jump for more details.
Audrea Gause, 26, used fake hospital records to collect almost a half a million dollars. She posed as a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing, submitting a claim to the fund a month ago. The claim included multiple pages of false hospital records of brain injuries including: long-term memory loss, impaired speech, and loss of some motor function.
She was arrested in her hometown of Troy, New York on Friday on a Massachusetts fugitive warrant charging her with larceny. She did in fact receive a $480,000 check from the fund that was created to help victims of the terrible tragedy in Boston.
Authorities received a tip last week stating that hospitals did not treat Gause, and she wasn’t even in Boston the day of the marathon.
