Baltimore harbor has some murky water. Actually, it looks milky. After hundreds of dead fish surfaced, the water began changing colors –turning milky white and green. So far, tests reveal that the water is lacking oxygen, which is the “cause of death” for the fish. However, it is still unknown as to why the water hast lost oxygen.
Maryland Department of the Environment’s hazmat team is investigating the cause and says the recent heat wave could be a factor.
Jay Apperson of MDE stated, “It’s probably a sequence of events that has to do with too many nutrients being in the water. That creates a series of reactions and events that leads to no oxygen in the water.”
