Good intentions can’t keep this California mother out of a court room. 37-year-old Irma Navarro is accused of shackling her 10-year-old son and now faces charges if willful child cruelty. All because she feared him running the streets.
Santa Ana’s Police department released a statement saying, “Navarro allegedly shackled her son because she did not want him ‘running the streets and getting into trouble or mixed up with the wrong group of kids while she was at work.'” I guess she’d rather be the one controlling the chains instead of correction officers. Now, she may be in chains.
Police were initially notified once a neighbor saw the child leaning against a tree in tears. Once they got closer, they realized that he was chained. Once they asked who was responsible, the child responded with, “My mom did this to me.”
Since the arrest, Navarro’s three children are now in protective services.
