Washington D.C. contemplating decriminalizing pot possession.
Announcing on Wednesday, Washington D.C. is considering decriminalizing the possession of marijuana. It’s called the Simple Possession of Small Quantities of Marijuana Decriminalization Amendment Act, and it removes criminal penalties for having less than how much pot on you??

The act was introduced by Councilman Tommy Wells, and it would remove criminal penalties for those carrying less than an ounce of pot on them! Our own capitol considering decriminalizing marijuana… I never seen this coming. Citizens 18 and older found with less than a ounce of bud on them would only receive a civil fine of $100. Citizens under 18 would be required to go to a drug and alcohol awareness program.

Currently in D.C., any pot found on you can result up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Washington has the highest arrest rate for pot possession in the country. With the highest arrest rate, they also spend the most for enforcing marijuana possession laws.

75 percent of poll voters in D.C. support changing marijuana laws.

Councilman Wells said this about the proposed act, “The effort to decriminalize marijuana is about removing barriers for individuals—the impact on their education, and their opportunities for employment.”
