Shaq loves to talk sh*t. Always wants to stir things up with comments, but that is how he has always been. I am beginning to think the NBA has paid people off to talk up the Knicks/Nets rivalry. The league thought the rivalry would of started on its own this past season, but you can’t force that. I do not think it will be a real rivalry until the new Nets show they can sustain being good for a while. The Knicks have ran New York for too long to suddenly give the Nets respect as a hated rival. Maybe down the road, but that still didn’t stop Shaq from running off at the mouth. Check it after the jump.

Now I realize the Nets now have KG and Paul Pierce on top of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez. But to immediately classify them as favorites for anything we need to see what will happen first. Remember last season, everyone thought the Lakers would take the west and they wound up being a joke for various reasons. Shaq however has already awarded the city to the Nets. He was quoted with the following:

I’m going with the Nets right now, over the Knicks — all day, every day,” O’Neal told Newsday on Thursday. “Jason Kidd’s a great guy, he’s a great leader. I’m anxious to see when things get tough how the guys are going to respond. It’s a dangerous lineup. I was thinking about it on the way over here.”

Shaq doesn’t always make sense when he talks, but when he does, people listen. Nets fans are looking for any reason to stir up a rivalry with the Knicks, even though some of those same fans root for the Knicks when they watch them play also lol.
