It was a shocking turn of events when the Philadelphia 76ers traded All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday in order to acquire the Pelicans draft pick, Nerlens Noel. Holiday was coming off a spectacular season and was just given a contract extension before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. Now he’s speaking out about his new home. In his first comments since Thursday night’s trade to the New Orleans Pelicans, All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday posted on his Facebook page: “ I want to say thank you to the Philadelphia 76ers for four great seasons. But now, I’m excited to get down to the New Orleans Pelicans and get to work. Any Pelicans fans out there?”
The Pelicans drafted Kentucky center Nerlens Noel sixth overall and promptly shipped him and a first-round pick in 2014 to the Philadelphia 76ers for Holiday and a second-round pick.
A politically correct response but the Pelicans are building a good young core group.
