Now that the NBA Finals are over everyone is focusing on free agency. The pool is pretty decent this year but the major focus is on Dwight Howard yet again. His indecisiveness has led to blunders in the past but this time he wants to “choose his own destiny”. Read more after the jump.
It was well known that Dwight Howard wanted to leave the Orlando Magic however in a shocking twist he decided not to opt out of his contract. The costly decision put the Magic in charge of Howard’s fate as he let it be known yet again that he wants to leave. Instead of opting out and becoming a free agent he was controlled by the Magic who would try to seek out the best deal for the team rather than letting Howard go wherever he wanted to. In the end he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Howard has decided not to let the same mistake happen twice and opted out of his contract with the Lakers. That however doesn’t mean he won’t return to the team. The Lakers have competition from the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets. While the Lakers can offer Howard the most money there may be other factors in his decision as he alluded to.

About free agency, Dwight (Howard) said: “This is my chance to choose my own destiny instead of letting someone else choose it. So I’m going to really sit down and think about what is best for me as far as basketball and what is going to make me happy.
“There’s nothing one team can say to sway me away from another team. It’s just going to be what’s best for me basketball-wise.”
If he wants to do what’s best for him basketball wise he may choose to go with a younger, upcoming team like the Houston Rockets or he could decide to try things out with Kobe Bryant again. We’ll just have to wait and see.
