Yesterday, Hollywood Walk of Fame committee chairman David Green announced the honorees slated to receive stars on coveted Hollywood Boulevard next year, and some distinguished black celebrities are finally receiving their due. Most notable is rapper Tupac Shakur who will be honored posthumously 17 years after his death. Isn’t that awesome ?! Hit the jump for more………
Looking at the other celebrities who are being lauded, it seems crazy Pac would only just now be getting this recognition, but given his genre of music and the controversy surrounding his life, lyrics, and death, it isn’t all that surprising, especially considering where the honor is coming from. In this case, it’s better late than never, and we’re happy to see Pac be remembered in this way. Other black celebrities being honored with stars are Tavis Smiley and Giancarlo Esposito, both in the category of television.
The remaining figures slated to be recognized: In the category of film: Orlando Bloom, Ray Dolby, Sally Field, Jack Harris, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Liam Neeson, Paul Mazursky and Tom Sherak. In TV, Dabney Coleman, Kaley Cuoco, Claire Danes, Deidre Hall, Cheryl Hines, Don Mischer, and Phil Hartman. Recording stars: Katy Perry, Holland-Dozier-Holland, and Rick Springfield….
Congratulations to all the honorees
