Both of the Milwaukee Bucks backcourt Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis will become free agents and it’s rumored that the Bucks prefer to keep Ellis. Well according to a report the Bucks made Ellis an offer and he reportedly turned it down. Read more after the jump.
Ellis has the option to opt in and remain with the Bucks taking their offer of an extension or he can opt out and become a free agent.
via Charles F. Gardner of the Journal Sentinel:
As part of the discussions the Bucks offered the 27-year-old guard a two-year extension through the 2015-’16 season, resulting in a total package of nearly $36 million over three years, according to a source. Ellis would have been required to opt in to get the additional two years on the deal.
That includes the opt-in first year at $11 million, with annual raises bringing the total to $11.8 million in the second year of the deal and $13 million in the final year.
As a high volume shooter who can often go cold, some say Ellis definitely shouldn’t reject such a high offer. There’s a chance he may want a more long term contract or there’s a chance this isn’t exactly correct info. The Bucks or his agent could’ve leaked it for their own agendas. His agent could be trying to drive up his stock and the Bucks could be using public opinion to chastise Ellis into taking a smaller amount. But if it is true, I don’t know who’s crazier – the Bucks for offering so much money or Ellis for turning it down.
