LISNR app is a new way artist can interact with their fans by bring them exclusive content. J.Cole on June 6th, use this app to launch his one-time only listening session for fans across 8 US cities as well as in London. The app has its own frequency so that audio can be heard. LISNR app recognizes the frequency, and then sends out a notification to unlock the content for users to enjoy the exclusive content.
At the NYC J.Cole listening experience fans stood in the pouring rain waiting for the content to be unlocked. With the help of Beats by Dre they were able to pull off a massive unlocking for the more than 100 fans that were scattered throughout Time Square. No one was quite sure if the location given was correct due to people being told to move from the coordinates.
The stream was suppose to start at 8pm and for some reason a few people were able to get on the Atlanta stream, which at the time only looped the same intro over and over. Then word came via J.Cole Tweets saying the stream will be up in 15 minutes. There was a problem with LISNR server and the company tweeted informing users of the issue saying the stream will start shortly and were now waiting on J.Cole. The company also tweeted about where to actually stand, users were to locate the Beats By Dre Box. The streams are then finally unlocked and fans were in a deep trance trying to soak up the one-time listening session. Check out the gallery for photos.
This was very dope marketing plan provided with the help of a great app. Though off to a rough start, the stream worked well and the only people who had any problems were the few Android users. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more artist choosing to do streams via the LISNR app in the future. J.Cole’s ‘Born Sinner’ album hits stores on June 18th.
