Brett Favre went through alot with his former team, the Green Bay Packers. He became a Super Bowl champion with the team, as well as going down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Unfortunately after all those years the relationship between him and the team soured. For the past few years the Brett Favre saga has been somewhat of a black cloud over the organization, until maybe now. Brett is now finally blaming himself for everything that went wrong and in my opinion he is 100% correct. Read more after the jump.

One of the most beloved players in franchise history at one time, Favre made a regular habit of contemplating retirement after each season late in his career. He did retire after the 2007 season, then unretired in July 2008 but the Packers already had moved forward with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback of the future. Favre decided to report to training camp with the team in 2008, creating a rift with the organization, Rodgers and the club’s rabid fan base. The Packers ultimately decided to trade Favre to the New York Jets. After one season with the Jets, Favre went on to play two seasons for the NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings, getting booed in his return to Lambeau Field.
Favre at the time guess he thought the team would wait on his decision each year if he was going to retire or not, which as a player you can not repeatedly do. Eventually a team has to prepare for life after you, regardless of how the player feels. But in this case, even though it is now years later, it seems Favre has recognized that. He was quoted in an interview with a Buffalo radio station.
“It’s over and done with. I was at fault, I feel that both sides had a part in it. If you could go back, would I or them have done things differently? I’m sure both sides would. But you can’t.”
He also added a reply in a question about him having his number retired with the Packers:
I don’t know of any player who would not want that to happen,” Favre said of having his number being retired. “I’m honored just by the thought. Obviously there was, if you want to call it, ‘bad blood’ or whatever, I just think that people started picking sides. And really I’m over that and have been over it.”
It sounds like eventually everything will be the way it is supposed to between a sports franchise and one of their greatest players ever.
