Along with the pilot and three other crew members, who had time to eject, Adler was left in five foot snow with terrible injuries. He remained there for five days when all of a sudden, his prayers for rescue were answered. Eugene Slabinksi dropped down from his helicopter and pulled the two injured crew members to safety.

The pilot from the flight, Dan Bulli, had lighters specially engraved to send to his surviving crew members and brave medic with a letter attached, saying, “Thanks for the lift.” Adler still has his.
