When the Brooklyn Nets decided not to hire interim coach P.J. Carlesimo as the full time coach for next season, you figured they were going to try and bring a big name in to coach the team and try to improve on their first round playoff exit from this season. Phil Jackson said no already so that only leaves a couple headline catching names out there to possibly coach the Nets. Well you can now officially cross Doc Rivers off the list as well. Brooklyn asked the Celtics for permission to speak with Doc and got shut down with the quickness. See what happened after the jump.

From the sound of the reports, it took Celtics GM Danny Ainge literally one second to answer Brooklyn. NO!! lol. The Nets were hoping to speak with Doc and possibly make him an offer he couldn’t refuse to come coach in BK, but that conversation will never happen. Can’t really be mad at the Nets for trying though, Rivers is a great coach. Ainge wouldn’t comment on the talk he had with the Nets, but made it clear he knows alot of teams would want Doc. “We know people want Doc,” Ainge said. “We know people want Rajon Rondo and KG and Paul Pierce. They are the Celtics. They’ve all had great success.” “Doc has told me he’s coming back,” Ainge said bluntly. “I talk to him almost every day about our team and what we are going to do moving forward.” Doc still has 3 years and $21 million dollars left on his current deal. Brooklyn should maybe focus on changing their roster up a little bit as well, because the team they have now will never win a championship. Good Luck on that coaching search.
