Damn. It’s hard to see any player get hurt, but esp. during OTAs. 49ers WR Michael Crabtree has undergone surgery for a torn Achilles & will reportedly be sidelined for 6 months. We’re wishing him a speedy recovery & will hopefully see him back on the field soon! Report after the jump…
Via ESPN:
While a torn Achilles usually was considered a season-ending injury, both Baltimore Ravenslinebacker Terrell Suggs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers were able to return to play during last season after suffering the injury earlier in the year.
Crabtree, 25, had his best season in 2012 for the NFC West champion 49ers, with 85 receptions for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns.
In the postseason, Crabtree had 28 receptions for 285 yards and three touchdowns, including one score in the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Crabtree was the 49ers’ leading receiver during the regular season. Tight end Vernon Davis was second on the team with 548 yards and five touchdowns.
The 49ers have veterans Anquan Boldin, Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams on their depth chart at receiver. San Francisco also selected receiver Quinton Patton in the fourth round of the 2013 draft.
