Over $1 million in jewelry meant to be worn by celebrities attending The Cannes Film Festival was stolen on Friday morning. On Thursday evening a hotel room used by jeweler Chopard was broken into and the safe was removed. The safe contained rings, necklaces, bracelets, and more that was to be worn by celebs attending the festival. Ironically, the heist happened the day after Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring premiered at Cannes. Coppola’s movie is based on a real-life ring of celeb jewel thieves. Read more below.
Chopard is one of the sponsors of the famed film festival and has done countless events without an issue. Police are have said, “The room was said to be empty, and the safe was taken off the wall, before being removed.” So far, there have been no changes in jewelery worn by celebs by other designers but I’m sure they have heightened security. How crazy is that? Hopefully the catch the thief!
