After many unanswered requests from Republican lawmakers to have, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the one remaining suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, they finally got a response. It didn’t work well in their favor, seeing as those lawmakers requested that Tsarnaev be seen as an enemy combatant. After seeing a federal judge in the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, Tsarnaev got the news. Even though he is only able to communicate via writing, Tsarnaev still has not entered any plea.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney states, “He will not be treated as an enemy combatant.” Carney made it even more clear by adding, “We will prosecute this terrorist through our civilian system of justice.” I mean what would the military do to this guy that the civilian system wouldn’t do? Drop down bottom and check out the White House’s reasoning.
“The system has repeatedly proved that it can successfully handle the threats we continue to face,” Carney said. He also noted, U.S. citizens — like Tsarnaev — cannot be tried in military commissions and stressed that the civilian court system can handle such a case.” What do you all think should happen?
