Although we still have no clear motive to their horrific actions, we are learning more and more about the Tsarnaev brothers and the Boston Marathon bombings. Boston officials announced today that the brothers acted alone, but did plan on more violent attacks. Officials are hoping to gain more information from younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, if he is ever able to speak. The reports show that the brothers threw homemade grenades and more explosives at police officers on the night that older brother, Tamerlan, was killed. Drop down for more information.
Police Commissioner Ed Davis said, “They had IEDS,” referring to improvised explosive devices, “They had homemade hand grenades that they were throwing at the officers. The scene was littered with unexploded improvised explosive devices that we had to point out to the arriving officers.”
Mayor Thomas M. Menino said, “All of the information I have is they acted alone, these two individuals, the brothers.”
Governor Deval Patrick also chimed in saying that there is actual footage of Dzhokhar putting down his backpack and walking away right before the second blast, “It does seem to be pretty clear that this suspect took the backpack off, put it down, did not react when the first explosion went off and then moved away from the backpack in time for the second explosion. It’s pretty clear about his involvement and pretty chilling, frankly.”
