It is possible for someone to actually hijack a plane with using only their smartphone. Hugo Teso, a security consultant who use to be a commercial airline pilot, said its easy for someone to hack into the airlines system using the right tools and under specific conditions. Teso says he’s developed an Android app, called PlaneSploit, that can make it very easy to for someone to hijack a plane.
He showed off the flaws of software created by companies such as Honeywell, Thales and Rockwell Collin at the Hack In The Box security conference.Teso said he discovered the issue by reverse engineering flight management system hardware he bought off eBay, which had the same code planes use today. Teso has contacted the Federal Aviation Administration to help them fix these flaws before other catch on to it.
