The bad news Orlando Magic’s leading scorer Arron Afflalo injured his right hamstring and will be out for the rest of the season. The good news is that there’s only 12 games left and at 18-52 the Magic don’t have any chance of making the playoffs. Afflalo’s injury also helps the Magic in a way. Read more after the jump.
Afflalo is averaging a team-high 16.5 points per game and a team-high 14.1 shot attempts per game. They plan to treat his hamstring injury with rest and physical therapy.
As long as Afflalo’s injury doesn’t have any long term effects then this is a good thing for the Orlando Magic. Without their leading scorer the Magic will fall deeper and have a chance at getting a higher draft pick.
They’ll also be able to give more minutes to young players like DeQuan Jones, Doron Lamb and E’Twaun Moore. The 18-52 Magic might even fall behind the 16-52 Charlotte Bobcats for the No. 1 seed in the NBA lottery.
