The once highly notable Big East is considered dead by some once Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame leave for the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) next year. While their top dog schools are leaving a couple others are entering that could add back some notoriety. Read more after the jump.
Butler University will withdraw from the Atlantic 10 conference next week and join the Big East, according to Indianapolis Star reporter David Woods.
According to the report, Butler will pay a $2 million exit fee to leave the Atlantic 10. An announcement is expected next week.
Butler will join the so-called ‘Catholic-7′ (Georgetown, St. Johns, Villanova, Seton Hall, Marquette, Providence & DePaul) group of schools, which negotiated to retain the Big East name. Xavier is reportedly expected to join Butler in the new league as well Creighton (not yet confirmed) which is expected to play games next season under the same Big East moniker.
