The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published an Apple patent filing called “Integrated Inductive Charging In Protective Cover” which basically describes the method of wireless charging. According to Apple Insider, Apple’s invention calls for a tablet case, or more specifically an iPad Smart Cover, to hold the inductive power transmitter. In some embodiments, an internal battery is disposed within the case, basically creating an “on-the-go” wireless charger. Also, in the patent filing, it hints to solar powering and would be for future iPad models.
