Some NFL fans might not even realize who Terrance Ganaway is. And at least for the off season, that is exactly how he would like to keep it. Why is a football player who made the minimum salary last year of $390,000 working in a local sandwich shop in Waco, Texas during the off season? The reason may surprise you. Read about it after the jump.

Ganaway, who was with the New York Jets earlier in his rookie season, before he was let go and picked up by the St. Louis Rams, is a rare breed type of athlete. While most young players prefer to be out spending that NFL money, poppin’ bottles, chillin’ with models, and maybe getting into trouble, Ganaway is making sure he isn’t one of them. He was looking for a way to stay out of trouble and save his money. He only makes $7.50 an hour at the shop, so you know he doesn’t have to be doing this. If only most athletes thought like him. He isn’t some guy who thinks he is too good for certain jobs either. When he was asked what he does at the sandwich shop, he said

“I’m on the line that makes the sandwiches. I bake bread. Take the cashier spot. I had to sweep the other day. Clean the tables. I mean, all types of stuff. Slice the meat. Wrap the meat. I’m in the heat of the battle. Trying to make sandwiches fast is Jimmy John’s policy, so it’s kind of stressful”.

It’s refreshing to know there are still some young players out there who realize the position they are in and are grateful for it. Ganaway is by no means a star in the league, but it is still a good example of how to manage yourself. He still has a very intense workout everyday so he will be ready for football drills when pre-season camps open in April.
