The 2015 NBA All-Star game will be held in New York City, but which borough? Read more after the jump.
Both the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets put their bid in to host the 2015 NBA All-Star game and with no other cities under consideration either Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center will be the winner.
It also ensures that the revived Knicks-Nets rivalry will take on a new dimension as the franchises compete for one of the N.B.A.’s biggest honors.
“This is terrific,” Stern said, referring to the dueling New York applications.
There are some caveats. The league needs to determine the availability of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, for example, and whether it can secure the required number of hotel rooms. The league also needs the approval and support of the city. Such assessments are part of every All-Star Game application process, but no obstacles are anticipated.
Asked if one of the league’s New York arenas would end up with the game, Adam Silver, the deputy commissioner, responded with a simple “Yes.”
There is no timeline for making the decision, but an announcement usually comes about 12 to 18 months before the game.
They spent billions building the Barclays Center, a state of the art arena in Brooklyn as well as spending millions on promotional campaigns. The Knicks also spent $800 million renovating the arena to modernity. Regardless of which borough wins out NYC will be rocking in 2015.
