To celebrate Black History Month, InFlexWeTrust will be honoring influential members of Black history daily throughout the month. Today, we are honoring Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou is an American poet and author who has written countless works including her first and famous, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Not only is Maya a writer, she has also worked as coordinator for Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an actress, director and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs, a journalist in Egypt and Ghana during the days of decolonization, as well as a college professor. She also worked with Dr. King Jr and Malcom X during the Civil Rights Movement. Although she is best known for her autobiographies, Angelou’s poems and books focus on racism, identity, family, travel, and more issues. Angelou has set the bar for authors and poems of every race and gender. Read more about her live and contributions below.
