Andre Cassagnes invented the Etch-A-Sketch back in the 1950’s. Cassagnes debuted his toy at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 1959 and it was picked up by Ohio Art. The now famous toy was launched in 1960 and looked similar to the ones we know today. Although not many even knew Cassagnes’ name, we all know his famous toy and many of use have childhood memories playing with it. Cassagnes passed away on January 16 died in Paris, France. The Ohio Art Co., that has been working with Cassagnes on the development of the toy, made the announcement of his death yesterday. There are not many details about his life or death, just that he passed away at age 86 and the impact his toy made on society. The Etch-A-Sketch will has survived through many generations and despite all of the technological advances that have occurred since 1960, remains a top-seller.
