This concept is crazy, but let the drunken stereotypes begin. Of course a possible law like this would originate in Ireland. A councilman in the county of Kerry has put forth a motion to allow some drinkers to drive after a “few” drinks without the worry of being arrested and losing their licesne. Ireland surprisingly enough has a lower legal limit than most of the U.S. In Ireland .05 is the legal limit, while it is mostly .08 here in the states. Read more after the jump.

The reasoning behind the councilman even attempting to put forth a motion like this is slightly odd. He proposes that some elderly people who live in desolate areas where there is no public transportation, stay home and do not get chances to socialize and spend time with loved ones and friends because they are fearful if they drink while they are out they will be arrested on their drive back home. He feels if they have the ability to drive after a few drinks without being arrested it will allow them to feel more secure about leaving the house for a night of socializing. Odd proposal indeed. He says he is not trying to make the proposed law available countrywide. It would only be for citizens of a certain age living in certain regions of the country. My only question is WHO will be the one to determine if (insert stereotypical Irish name here), will be legally drunk under the new proposal, and under what conditions. The mayor of the county is 100% against the proposal, as well as many other groups throughout the country. We will see how this plays out.
